BE Inspired

It’s important to identify people that you admire, learn from them, and emulate their positive actions. Here is a short list of who most inspired me in 2016. I can’t wait to see what they accomplish in 2017!

Emma Watson

Not only is Emma Watson a smart and inspiring actress, she is a very up and coming figure in the feminist movement. Since 2014, Emma Watson has been a speaker for feminism and was appointed as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. She delivered addresses and helped to launch the HeForShe campaign, which calls men to advocate for gender equality. In 2016, Watson created a feminist goodreads book club called Our Shared Shelf. The Goal of the club is to share feminist ideas and encourage discussion for all females. Watson also placed number 26 on the TIME 100 list of the world's most influential people.

Lesley Stahl

As an aspiring journalist, I have a little bias for Lesley Stahl. This year Lesley was given the opportunity to interview Trump for his first official presidential interview. Because of her hard work in journalism, Lesley earned the interview, which was viewed by citizens all over the world.

Michelle and Barack Obama

Due to his two terms in office, Obama is the president that I have really grown up with. Before Obama, I really didn’t know or care much about politics. However, with him as president, I saw a lot of good in presidency. From work in equality to education and health reforms, Obama has been a true help and inspiration to the people. He was a great president to the people, but an even greater friend to America too. He was there in times of need, unifying our country and teaching the importance of togetherness. Michelle Obama was also a great and inspiring first lady for the United States. She was caring, but also very classy and put together. She worked for 8 years on the Let’s Move! Campaign, working to get teens and kids stronger and healthier. She promoted fitness as well as education, looking to improve schools for the youth to thrive in.

USA Women’s Gymnastics team

This Olympic team was inspiring to young girls all over the nation. With such a strong and diverse group of hard working girls, these five proved to be a role model for all girls.

Hillary Clinton

In 2016, Hillary Clinton was the poster woman for feminism and female confidence. Running a strong and heartfelt campaign, Hillary was truly inspiring to both women and men all over the country. She focused her campaign on unity, hope, and power; something that all citizens need in their lives. From her speeches at fundraisers to her discussion at the presidential debates, Hillary was well spoken and inspiring. She came so far, and added many cracks to the big glass ceiling this year, truly inspiring me.

Oprah

No matter what year it is, Oprah will always make the inspiring list. Back in 2011, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored her philanthropic efforts with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. This year, On September 24, 2016, she participated in a dedication ceremony during the grand opening of the Washington, D.C. museum.
